Dr. Lori Gonzalez

Leadership Coach, Consultant, Author, Superintendent, and Motivational Speaker

Dr. Lori Gonzalez has served in public education for over three decades as a teacher, principal, and district-level administrator, including seven years as superintendent. Throughout her career, she has led with a deep commitment to equity, instructional excellence, and whole-child development. She is widely respected for her collaborative leadership style, her ability to build shared vision among diverse educational partners, and her commitment to cultivating learning environments where every individual is seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.

Her leadership journey reflects a steadfast belief that educational excellence and wellbeing are inseparable. Dr. Gonzalez has guided districts through continuous improvement efforts, expanded access to high-quality instruction, and implemented culturally responsive leadership practices at all levels that foster inclusivity and belonging. 

As the Founder and Lead Consultant of WholeLeader Consulting by Dr. Lori Gonzalez, she partners with superintendents, district leaders, organizations, and educational partners to strengthen leadership capacity and build sustainable systems that promote both excellence and wellbeing. Through executive coaching, leadership development, and organizational consulting, she supports leaders in navigating complex challenges while fostering resilient, thriving learning communities.

Over the span of her career, Dr. Gonzalez has been recognized for her innovative and equity-centered leadership. She was nominated for the 2025 Exemplary Woman in Education Award by the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and named a 2025 National Finalist for District Administration’s Women of Distinction: Recognizing Leadership Excellence. She was also honored as CALSA Region 3 Superintendent of the Year and named the 2022 ACSA Region 9 Administrator of the Year. In addition, she received the 2023 USC Dean’s Superintendents Advisory Group (DSAG) Scholarship and previously served as a CALSA Board Director for Region 3, helping elevate conversations around leadership development and Latinx representation in educational leadership.

Dr. Gonzalez’s professional experiences extend beyond district leadership. She has been featured in Edutopia, publications of the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and several educational leadership podcasts. She regularly presents at state and national conferences including the AASA National Conference on Education, CISC Leadership Symposium, CALSA conferences, and ACSA leadership events, sharing insights on leadership development, equity-centered systems, and the future of educational leadership.

She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from California State University, Fresno, including a Master’s in Reading and Language Arts with a Reading Specialist Credential. She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership (K–12) from the University of Southern California. Dr. Gonzalez is also a contributing author in Strengthening Equitable Education Through Latina Leaders’ Perspectives (IGI Global, 2025). Her chapter, Lead with Heart and Culturally Responsive Leadership, explores the power of authenticity, equity, and purpose in educational leadership.

Raised in Sanger, California, in the heart of the Central Valley, Dr. Gonzalez worked alongside her parents in the grape and walnut fields. Her upbringing instilled a strong work ethic, humility, and a belief that education opens doors to opportunity and transformation. These experiences continue to shape her deep commitment to rural communities and equitable access to opportunity for all students.

Through WholeLeader Consulting, Dr. Gonzalez continues her life’s work—mentoring, coaching, and developing current and aspiring leaders. She partners with individuals and organizations to strengthen leadership capacity, promote resilience and wellbeing, and design systems that foster excellence and belonging. Her guiding belief is simple yet powerful: when leaders lead whole, their organizations and communities thrive.
